Fuchu-shuku AreaCha-machi, a tea merchant town with 400 years of history

Cha-machi was a place where tea merchants gathered during the era of Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu. Even today, the area around Cha-machi is a concentration of tea industry and culture, where stores, companies, organizations, and markets related to tea gather. During the tea picking season, the scent of green tea, which is produced during the "fire-roasting" process of finishing rough tea, wafts from the storefronts of more than 100 wholesalers, creating a mood worthy of being called a "City of Tea".
