This shrine is said to be where Lord Ieyasu, when he was a child called Takechiyo-kun, stopped by before meeting Lord Imagawa Yoshimoto as a hostage and prayed for his longevity. The shrine has continued to be protected by the Tokugawa family as the guardian deity of Sumpu Castle.
